“Each piece colourfully compelling and individually remarkable..”
I graduated from the London College of Fashion in 1997 with a degree in mens tailoring and worked in fashion buying for a few years before moving into other areas of work in non-creative fields.
My fashion interests were never far from my heart and I loved finding striking pieces of jewellery close to home and when I travelled abroad, curating an extensive personal collection. I would look at an entire wall of jewellery in a big store, an independent shop or on a market stall and zero in on a piece that was ‘meant to be mine’.
Then came a website called Pinterest and with it, the ability to collate storyboards and scrapbooks in an electronic format. I was happily lost!
I began saving the beautiful images of jewellery pieces I found there, and was gradually seduced by links to online jewellery making tutorials. My reasoning? “I know what I like, I value unique pieces I won’t see on other people so why not make my own treasures”?
A couple of evening courses in wirework and polymer clay effects at The London Jewellery School, and City Lit soon followed. Responses from friends, family and work colleagues fuelled my desire to make my pieces available for jewellery lovers such as myself.
Here, at theasmartthenry.co.uk you can browse through my creations and purchase pieces that are ‘meant to be yours’.
Each piece is handmade and individually remarkable, new creations are uploaded on a monthly basis.
