A world of circles in jewellery

Circles. They’re everywhere in nature, from the sun illuminating our days to the moon casting its silvery glow at night. It’s no surprise that these perfect shapes hold a special place in my heart and my jewellery designs. But for me, it’s more than just their ubiquity; circles brim with symbolism and endless creative potential.

Circles are a universal symbol of unity, wholeness, and infinity. They represent the cyclical nature of life, echoing themes of continuity and completeness. In many cultures, circles signify protection and eternity, often seen in the form of wedding bands and spiritual mandalas. This rich symbolism provides a profound backdrop for my creations, adding layers of meaning to each piece.

Let’s explore this fascination with circles and how they weave their magic into my work.

Lilipad discs: A dance of geometry and nature

One of my favourite designs, the Lillypad disc, features translucent polymer clay ‘water’ with geometric floating pads. This piece captures the serene beauty of lily pads floating on a pond, encapsulating the harmony between nature and geometry. The circle here represents tranquillity and the delicate balance of nature.

Planetary discs: Whispers from distant worlds

Have you ever gazed at the night sky and dreamt of faraway planets? My Planetary discs capture that very essence. Using polymer clay, I blend colours to mimic the swirling, marbled appearance of satellite images. Imagine holding a world in your palm, it’s surface a canvas of blended colours.. Each disc is unique, a wearable universe waiting to be discovered. These pieces invite wearers to carry a piece of the universe with them, a reminder of the vast and beautiful unknown.

Here, the smooth, uninterrupted form of the circle evokes a sense of mystery and wonder. It’s a reminder of the vastness of the universe and the countless possibilities that lie beyond our world.

Relic Discs: Shards of time, crafted beautifully

The creative process is often an intuitive journey with an undefined destination but my cherished remnants from past projects find new life.

Shards of cured polymer clay are woven into a new whole within the circular frame to become my Relic discs. The result is a textural masterpiece, each disc a unique record of the creative path that led to its creation. The circle here becomes a symbol of time, where the past and present converge in a stunning piece of wearable art.

The fragmented nature of the embedded clay shards within the circle is a celebration of the journey, where even the “mistakes” or unused remnants become beautiful elements in a new creation. The circle becomes a symbol of renewal and the cyclical nature of creativity.

Splash Discs: A burst of colour and energy

Life is vibrant, messy, and full of surprises. My splash discs embody that very spirit. Imagine a bold burst of colour frozen in time, a splash of vivid hues reminiscent of graffiti art. The circle confines the chaos, creating a captivating composition that’s both bold and beautiful. Here, the circle becomes a frame for boundless energy, a reminder to embrace the vibrancy of life.

The sharp contrast between the perfect circle and the wild splashes of colour within it creates a sense of tension and excitement. It’s a celebration of the unexpected, the bursts of inspiration that can take our lives in new directions. The circle becomes a symbol of containing and channelling our inner creative energy.

The circular form is a constant source of inspiration for me. It allows for endless experimentation with textures, colours, and techniques. Whether I am creating a piece that evokes the grandeur of the universe, the depth of personal history, or the lively energy of graffiti art, the circle provides a perfect canvas. Its inherent symmetry and balance speak to my desire to create jewellery that is both beautiful and meaningful.

Circles, for me, are portals to other worlds, records of time, and frames for boundless energy. Each piece I create is a testament to the endless possibilities that lie within this perfect form. So, the next time you browse my collection, I invite you to see beyond the circle itself and delve into the world of emotions and stories it evokes.
